Marine cable seals—sometimes called deck glands or cable glands—are a simple and effective way to run electrical or signal cables through a deck, bulkhead, or enclosure while keeping water out. Each seal includes a housing, a rubber insert (called a “bung”), and a compression cap. As you tighten the cap, it compresses the bung around the cable, forming a secure, watertight seal.

Most Scanstrut cable seals come with multiple pre-drilled bungs to accommodate common cable sizes, ensuring a snug fit without over-compression. Each package also includes a solid, undrilled bung that you can custom-drill to match your exact cable diameter. For best results, we recommend freezing the rubber bung before drilling—this keeps the edges clean and helps prevent tearing. If your cable has a pre-installed connector, simply drill your hole as needed, then make a clean knife slice from the outer edge to the center hole to pass the connector through. The compression action of the seal still maintains excellent watertight performance even with a sliced bung.
