Product Description

Backlit Rocker Switch – Nav Anc

Special Variation Note:  Due to the relatively complicated wiring on this switch – and that it often is the switch that triggers the backlights, we have two body styles:

1 – Warm White and red light switches come on a 7 terminal Switch (download diagram here
2 – Blue and cool white light switches come on a 10 terminal Switch (download diagram here)

This genuine Carling rocker switch labeled “Nav Anc” is manufactured by laser marking, NOT printing.   Laser technology allows for a stunning backlight effect.  It is a great upgrade to our popular Contura II style Nav Anc rocker switch.

This product is the ENTIRE SWITCH combo and includes both the switch body and the labeled cover.  Find the laser-etched Nav Anc switch cover sold separately here. This is an ON-OFF-ON switch, and is meant to trigger the navigation and anchor lights in the same switch (Both when up, anchor only when down).

Note this switch comes on a dependent switch body, so it is meant to be the switch that ACTIVATES the backlights in your other switches.  If this is not what you want, then you’ll want to purchase the actuator separately and use this switch body.

Switch Features:

  • Stunning readability in the dark
  • Dual lamps – top backlight, bottom indicator light
  • 7 illumination color options: warm white, cool white, blue, red, green, amber, or bright red – all available HERE
  • Laser-etched – no ink to wear off

How Does the Backlighting Work?

  • Laser marking the cover allows light to be visible only where we have marked
  • Text and symbol markings illuminate – not the normal ink over a lens
  • Both top and bottom lights in this switch are externally triggered independent lights – normally wired to the nav light circuit, although either can also be jumped to an output to become an indicator light as well

How Our Switches Are Better:

  1. Genuine Carling switches – We’ll never try and pass off cheap Chinese knock-offs like some of our competitors. You’ve probably seen other sites list a switch as “fits carling”… that’s a red flag.  All our switches are the genuine article.  And like all cheaply made counterfeits, you CAN tell the difference.
  2. Night Illumination – Unlike printing, our laser marking technology allows stunning readability in the dark.
  3. Support – We know this product inside and out and are happy to help our customers.  Need help wiring up one of our products, call us… seriously: (843) 297-8348
  4. Guarantee – While Carling does not offer a warranty, we’re so confidant in the quality; that if your switch breaks within 2 years, you can return it for a free replacement!

Will It Fit?

This rocker switch will replace any Carling V-series or Contura style rocker switch.  That includes Contura style switches sold by Carling, Sierra, Blue Sea Systems, Sea-Dog, etc.  It uses an industry-standard 1.45″  x 0.83″ mounting hole.

Wiring Info & Wiring Diagram:

This rocker switch will have either 7 or 10 terminals on it, depending on lighting color.  See note above.  See wiring diagram downloads above.

Why do we provide some 7 and some 10?  Well – 7 terminals are easier to wire… and they work fine with backlit switches, EXCEPT… you can only use a 7 terminal if you intend for THIS switch (the nav circuit of the nav/anc) to trigger the backlights in your entire switch bank!

If you intend for another switch… say, panel lights, or instrument lights – to trigger your switch backlights:  Then you need a 10 terminal base.  The 10 terminal rocker body has the independent lights necessary to illuminate the “nav/anc” words and symbols without the switch actually being on.

We find that on warm white and red switches the intensity is not so bright that it’s usually an issue, so people will want the nav/anc switch to trigger the backlights… so we provide those on 7 terminal bases.  The blue and cool white is quite bright, and people often install a dimmer, or trigger the bank of switches’ backlights with another switch, so we default to a 10 terminal switch.

If you want both warm white or red lights and another switch to trigger your backlights, then please order the 10 terminal warm white or red base and the actuator separately… otherwise you won’t be able to wire it up that way.

Accessories:

On Contura Styles and Colors:

This Nav Anc illuminated rocker switch is a special Contura V style made to be laser engraved, as pictured above.  It is a similar shape, but different texture and appearance than contura V switches that are meant to be printed.  As you can see in the images there is no lens… the etching actually becomes the lens.  So generally folks do not mix and match these switches, even among printed Contura Vs.

We carry this switch with warm white incandescent lamps or red, blue, cool white, amber, green, or bright red LEDs.  The illumination only affects the lighting, not the color of the engraving.  Blue, cool white, green and bright red are our most bright colors, followed by amber and warm white, then red is the least bright.

Great parts and great customer support
With no experience wiring switches, I was able to find a YouTube tutorial and a phone call that prepared me to be successful. Pam was as much as a joy to talk to as she is a YouTube star. I will be buying from them again.
