Bluewater P/N: 9055-2118

Bluewater Signal Switch Overview

The Bluewater Signal Switch is specifically designed for very low-current signal switching (under 240mA). It is not intended to function as a standard load switch, so it’s important to understand its intended application before installation.

Designed for Digital Switching Systems

This switch is most commonly used with digital switching platforms such as Garmin EmpirBus, POCO S8, C-Zone, and Marlin.

These systems do not carry load current through the switch itself. Instead, they detect a simple high/low signal that is interpreted by a control module.

Momentary Operation Only

Because digital switching systems typically require only a pulse input, this switch is momentary only.

There is currently no latching version available, which is normal for digital switching applications.

This prevents switch-position conflicts—for example, if a device is turned on physically but turned off virtually through an MFD, a latching switch would no longer reflect the true system state.

Ideal for Remote Physical Control

This switch is an excellent solution for adding physical control points to frequently used digital switching functions.

It allows operators to control devices without constantly navigating away from other screens on the MFD—a common convenience upgrade for modern helm layouts.

LED Lighting Options

This version uses standard bright LEDs, matching the brightness of:

  • 9055 Series

  • 9058 Series

A DayBright version is also available, which matches:

  • 9059 Series

  • 9060 Series

Electrical Compatibility

The switch uses dry-contact switching (not solid-state), allowing it to work with:

  • DC voltages up to 30Vdc

  • Negative signal switching

The dual LED system supports a side voltage input range of:

  • 3Vdc to 24Vdc

This makes the switch compatible with nearly all digital switching systems currently known.

Required Additional Components

This product includes switch body only.

To complete installation, you will also need:

  • a 22mm laser-etched or stainless switch face

  • a dual-output connector plug

Pin Layout Notes

The pin layout differs from other Bluewater switches because this model uses:

  • two independent LEDs

  • common cathode (negative pin)

No LEDs will illuminate unless Pin 4 or Pin 2 is connected.

Common Wiring Setup

A typical installation uses:

  • Pin 4 (blue LED) → connected to panel backlighting for nighttime illumination

  • Pin 2 (red LED) → connected to digital switching output for active-state feedback

This allows the switch to glow red when activated through a virtual switch on the MFD.

LED Color Behavior

This switch does not contain a microcontroller.

That means:

  • Blue does not turn off when red activates

  • If both blue and red are powered, the switch appears purple

This actually creates a useful visual distinction between:

  • switches carrying direct current

  • remote digital switching controls

Important Protection Warning

This switch has no built-in circuit protection.

Shorting Pins 1 and 3, even briefly, can permanently damage the switch.

Because of this, switches that fail due to overcurrent cannot be replaced under warranty.
