Boat Speaker Rings

Boat Speaker Rings That Finish the Install

A new pair of marine speakers rarely matches the existing cutout, the existing mounting depth, or the existing trim. That’s where speaker rings come in. A speaker trim ring covers an oversized or rough cutout for a clean finished look. A speaker spacer ring shims the speaker outward when mounting depth behind the panel is too shallow for the magnet to clear. And a cover plate — basically a thin solid speaker ring — caps the exposed core of a cored console after a deep woofer cone gets close to the back side of the panel. We make all three from the same Sinoma Boat Board HDPE, in stock sizes for the most common speakers and custom-cut to any dimension you need.

Stock Speaker Rings — 6.5″, 7.7″, and 8″

Our stock rings are pre-drilled, sold individually, and cut from 1/2″ white Sinoma Boat Board. The 6.5″ rings fit most marine 6.5″ speakers from JL, Fusion, Wet Sounds, and Kicker. The 7.7″ rings are sized specifically for the JL 770 Series and Fusion 7.7 Sport — common shallow-mount speakers where every fraction of an inch of mounting depth matters. The 8″ rings handle the larger marine 8″ speakers from JL, Wet Sounds, and others. If your speaker is one of these common fitments, the stock rings are the fastest path to a finished install.

Custom Speaker Rings — Built to Your Spec

If a stock size doesn’t match your speaker, your cutout, or your mounting depth, we cut custom. Specify the outside diameter (OD), the inside diameter (ID, where the speaker drops through), the thickness (we run anything from 1/4″ up through 1″+), and the edge profile (square, 1/16″ roundover, 1/8″ roundover, or 1/4″ roundover). Stack multiple custom rings to get the exact total depth you need. Most custom rings ship within a few business days.

Cover Plates — The Use Case Nobody Mentions

Cored consoles are great for weight and stiffness — until you install a deep woofer and realize the cone exposes the core material from the back side, where the console wall is open. The fix is a flat HDPE cover plate behind the speaker, sized to cap the exposed interior. We cut 1/4″ Sinoma Boat Board cover plates on the same custom builder as the rings — same material, same finish, just sized as a flat disc instead of a ring. If you’re installing a 10″ or larger marine subwoofer in a cored console, ask for the cover plate when you order the speaker ring.
Sizing — Measuring for a Speaker Ring

The two numbers that matter most are the outside diameter of the ring (how big across the visible trim is) and the inside diameter (how big the hole is for the speaker basket to drop through). Most speaker manufacturers list a “cutout diameter” on the spec sheet — that’s the ID. The OD depends on what you’re trying to cover: factory cutout that needs hiding, gel coat damage around an old install, or just the look you want. Thickness is set by how much shim depth your install needs, plus the look — a thicker ring sits prouder of the panel and reads more like a finished trim piece.

Material — Sinoma Boat Board HDPE

We cut our speaker rings from Sinoma Boat Board, a marine-grade HDPE sheet comparable to King Starboard in look and durability. It won’t rot, swell, splinter, fade, or yellow in the sun. Cleans up with soap and water. White is the standard color; matte black and other colors available on custom orders for blackout helms.

Customizable for Builders

If you’re an OEM, a refit shop, or a custom rigger ordering speaker rings in volume — matched to a specific speaker line, in a specific color, or with a specific edge profile — we can quote a production run. Send the speaker model number, the quantity, and any color or finish requirements. The same shop that designs and CNCs our custom dash and switch panels handles speaker ring production, so anything we do for an OEM customer we can do for you.

Why Buy Speaker Rings from New Wire Marine

We’re boaters first. The speaker rings on this page are the same ones we use in our own audio installs and in our customers’ OEM and refit projects — cut by people who’ve installed enough marine speakers to know what makes the difference between a clean install and a hack job. Our Charleston, SC shop is best known for custom dash and switch panels, and the same engineering and production that goes into those panels goes into every speaker ring we cut. Order one stock ring, a pair, or a fifty-piece production run — same shop, same materials, same support.

Expert Support

Picking the right speaker ring isn’t just about matching the speaker model — it’s about the cutout you already have, the mounting depth behind the panel, the look you want at the helm, and whether you need a shim, a trim ring, or a cover plate behind a deep woofer. If you’re unsure which configuration is right for your install, send us your speaker model number and a photo of the current cutout. We’ll tell you what to order.

Whether you’re upgrading a single pair of helm speakers or building a full marine audio system from scratch, we’re here to make sure the install ends up looking right.
