A fixed-blade knife on a fishing boat is one slip from a nasty cut — especially the exposed blade on most open knife holders. The Protected Blade Boat Pliers & Knife Holder fixes that: the knife rides in a slot built into a two-piece backplane, so the blade sits fully enclosed with no exposed edge to catch a knee, a hand, or a fishing line. It still holds a pair of pliers across two shelves and six hooks or leaders, all CNC-cut from full 1/2″ HDPE boat board in Charleston, SC.

Blade Stays Put — and Out of the Way

The whole point of this one is the enclosed blade. Instead of a knife sitting edge-out where a wave or a wrong reach can drag a hand across it, the blade drops down into a slot machined between two layers of the backplane. You get the knife right where you need it without a bare edge waiting for a knee. A couple of things to know before you order: a blade longer than 4-3/4″ will extend past the bottom of the holder (still safe, just visible), and because the slot sits about 1/2″ off the back, knives with wide handles — think big fillet knives over about 1″ at the handle — can be a tight fit. For a standard rigging or bait knife, it drops right in.

How to Mount It

We recommend screw mounting for a permanent hold — the two countersunk holes take #8 flat-head (countersunk) screws (available in your choice of length and finish from our fasteners) and tuck out of sight once it’s installed.

About the Suction Cups (Optional)

Suction cup hold does vary with how clean and un-waxed the surface is. They’re useful if you really don’t want to drill a hole, want to move the holder around, or want to test out a location for a few trips before mounting it permanently. Bottom line: your mileage may vary on the suction cups. They mount by simply screwing into the back of the holder with the small screw included with each cup.
