What You Should Know Before Purchase
To ensure optimal performance of your Custom-Fit Marine Access Door, consider the following:
1. Measurement Accuracy
- Minimum overall outside size 8″x8″ – Maximum overall outside size 40″x40″
- Measure the cutout dimensions precisely to the nearest 1/16 inch to ensure a perfect fit, and insure you’re referencing overall of cutout dimensions in the form.
- Custom orders are non-returnable, so double-check all measurements before finalizing your purchase.
2. HDPE: Understanding Your Choice
- Durability: HDPE is impact-resistant, moisture-proof, and chemically resistant, making it an excellent choice for weatherproof boat doors, starboard boat doors, and heavy-duty marine doors.
- Maintenance: Requires minimal upkeep, resists mold, mildew, and rotting, and is easy to clean with standard marine cleaners.
- Appearance: Features a matte finish that may not match high-gloss fiberglass surfaces but offers a professional, modern look. It is designed to match existing King Starboard™ or Simona Boat Board™ trim pieces for seamless integration.
3. Functional Considerations
- Hinge Placement: Ensure the boat enclosure door opens in the correct direction for your application, allowing ease of use and accessibility.
- Preventing door sag:
- When mounted on a vertical surface it’s best to place the hinge at the top or the bottom. HDPE has some inherent memory, so if the hinge is on the side, gravity may cause a noticeable sag over time, or even requiring you to lift the door to close it. Sag is greatest when the door is wider than about 20″, and especially when it’s short.
- If your application requires wide, side hinged doors, contact us to discuss a double hinged door with a Project Manager.
- Avoid placing excessive weight or attachments on any side hinged door, as this can strain the hinges and cause misalignment.
4. Installation and Hardware
- Mounting Style: Our doors are designed for face mounting, with the frame securely resting on the surface of the mounting area. Ensure your mounting area is flat and appropriately prepared.
- Hardware and Accessories: Each door includes pre-drilled frames, mounting hardware not included.
5. Order Finalization & Lead Time
- Production Timeline: Since each door is custom-built, please allow 5 business days for manufacturing. Lead times may vary, if timing is critical give us a call first.
- Order Confirmation: Before submitting your order, carefully review all specifications, measurements, and customizations. Due to the personalized nature of these products, all sales are final, and returns are not accepted.
