Backlit Rocker Switch – Start Run/Stop

This genuine Carling rocker switch labeled “Start Run/Stop” is manufactured by laser marking, NOT printing.   Laser technology allows for a stunning backlight effect.

This is a really neat switch.  It’s one of Carling’s ‘specialty circuits’ that we order just for this application.  It is OFF (open) in the down position.  Center position has one contact hot (run), and the up position has both the run and that start contact hot.

The up position is also momentary – as you’d expect. So this switch is meant for a system that requires one 12V source to keep the engine running (and when that source goes open the engine shuts off), and another 12V source to crank (think a starter solenoid).

This product is the ENTIRE SWITCH combo and includes both the switch body and the labeled cover.  Find the laser-etched Start Run/Stop switch cover sold separately here.

How Does the Backlighting Work?

• Laser marking the cover allows light to be visible only where we have marked
• Text and symbol markings illuminate – not the normal ink over a lens
• Top light is an externally triggered backlight – normally wired to the Nav light circuit
• Bottom light is now the indicator.  It lights when the switch is on

Will It Fit?

This rocker switch will replace any Carling V-series or Contura style rocker switch.  That includes Contura style switches sold by Carling, Sierra, Blue Sea Systems, Sea-Dog, etc.  It uses an industry-standard 1.45″  x 0.83″ mounting hole.

Wiring Info & Wiring Diagram:

This rocker switch has 6 terminals on the back:

1. 12V input – terminal 2 (ganged with 5)
2. 12V input – terminal 5 (ganged with 2)
3. ‘run’ output – terminal 3
4. ‘start’ output – terminal 6
5. negative – terminal 7
6. backlight trigger – terminal 8

On Contura Styles and Colors:

This Start Run/Stop illuminated rocker switch is a special Contura V style made to be laser engraved, as pictured above.  It is a similar shape, but different texture and appearance than Contura V switches that are meant to be printed.  This is a specialty circuit meant to crank and run an engine.

We carry this switch with warm white incandescent lamps or red, blue, cool white, amber, green, or bright red LEDs.  The illumination only affects the lighting, not the color of the engraving.  Blue, cool white, green and bright red are our most bright colors, followed by amber and warm white, then red is the least bright.
