The EGIS Panel Mount 87 Series Breaker is a type III (manually resettable) breaker specifically designed for Heavier-Duty components. These breakers are essential for meeting that increased short circuit interrupt capacity requirement. For instance, a 5,000-Amp Interrupt Capacity (AIC) is now mandated by AYBC E11 when the breaker is used as a main circuit breaker for batteries with more than 1100A “Cold Cranking Amps.”
The 87 Series manually resettable breakers are available in both surface mount and panel mount versions, providing flexibility for various applications.
The panel mount style features both studs on the reverse side. This design is often more convenient for wiring in panel applications. At only 2.27″ wide and 3.39″ high, the 87 Series Breakers offer a compact, small form-factor solution for protecting your high-current loads. Consequently, these breakers can replace a standard 285 Series (3,000A-AIC) in nearly all cases where this increased interrupt capacity is required.
Additionally, these IP66-rated, sealed marine-grade breakers are built to resist dust and water intrusion. As a result, they ensure reliable circuit protection throughout the life of your boat. When tripped, the yellow handle moves to a tripped position, providing a clear visual indicator.
Furthermore, these breakers can be used confidently in systems ranging from 12V to 48V, with a voltage rating of up to 48Vdc nominal.
This breaker is also a direct replacement for the Blue Sea 187 Series. See Part Number Cross Reference below.
These 87 Series breakers are very commonly used as your main house circuit protection – the large wire leading from your house battery up to the helm (Ref: Section 4 of our boat wiring guide).
Other good uses of this include high load devices like windlasses, stereo amps, trolling motors, air conditioners, etc with electrical draws above 100A.
