These Type III high amp breakers are used to protect those higher current loads on your boat. IP67 waterproof, they are marine grade and built for boating. They come in a variety of trip ratings up to 150A (select using the drop down menu above).
Approved for use up to 48Vdc (including common 12V and 24V systems), these breakers boast a 3,000A interrupt capacity.
These large circuit breakers also have a convenient manual trip feature: The little red button will trip the breaker off, effectively acting as a switch as well. When they trip (or are manually tripped), the small red lever flips down, and can be reset by pressing it back up.
Once you get up up to 50A, the size of the contacts require slightly larger breakers than the typical push-to-reset thermal breaker, and that’s where these “high amps” come in. Still they are compact, at only 1.9″ wide and 2.9″ high.
This waterproof circuit breaker has (2) 1/4″ studs for both the line and load on the rear. Nuts are included but you’ll need ring terminals like this one to install.
This product is the PANEL MOUNT version -commonly use here in our custom dash panels. Use this style if you want to mount the high current breaker into a panel or bulkhead where the source and load will be on the other side from the operator. An example would be if you have an interior bulkhead in your console that separates the head from the battery compartment.
We also carry a surface mount version, which is meant to be screwed down to a bulkhead, deck, etc without access to the rear. This would be perfect to screw into the wall of your console or electrical compartment.
These high amp breakers are very commonly used as your main house circuit protection – the large wire leading from your house battery up to the helm (Ref: Section 4 of our boat wiring guide).
Other good uses of this include high load devices like windlasses, stereo amps, trolling motors, air conditioners, electric reels, etc.
